Catalog Copy - "Search for Thor" book summary

This is my zillionth draft of the “catalog copy” for the book on Thor (after taking a class on how to write a book proposal).

“In April 1940, just as the Nazis invaded Norway, Thor Jensen--a banker, economist, and linguist—was thrust into the Gold Transport, a daring heist moving 55 tons of Norway's gold reserves out of the bank vaults in Oslo, moments before the Nazis marched into the city to confiscate it.

As the invasion escalated, Thor used his banking expertise and multi-language skills to monitor the Germans’ financial operations – and became privy to the financial dealing of the Nazis stationed in Finnmark. Thor navigated bombings, betrayals, and eventually subterfuge as he grappled with whom to trust and the realities of betrayal coming from those closest to him.

Thor abruptly moved 2,000 miles away from his family in Oslo to northernmost Norway in January of 1941 to take on the role of bank manager. However, by the end of the year, he is dead, leaving behind a fiancé, and a mystery as to what secrets he was hiding, and the manner of his death.

Randi Millman-Brown, Jensen's great-niece, tells his story interwoven with her own experience as someone who believes she was a spy in a former life. Using archival documents...she pieces together a heroic life cut short during Nazi-occupied Norway.

Randi is an art historian, writer, photographer, and amateur genealogist.”
