Evidence Discovered - March 2022

In February 2022 I learned about a book titled “Norges Bank 1816-2016”, written by Einar Lee, a professor at the University of Oslo. Luckily it was in English and I was able to order it via Amazon. In this book on page 163, I learned about something extraordinary.

On April 9, 1940, the day Norway was invaded, while most of Norway was taken by surprise, Norges Bank already had a plan in place to move 1,503 crates of gold bars and 39 barrels of gold coins from their reserves. The plan was extensive; first to transport all the gold to Lillehammer and then to western Norway enroute to England, in order to safeguard all 50+ tons of gold from the Nazis. Not only that, but then there was this line, “ Bank clerks were called in and armed with pistols…” Did Thor participate? Was this finally evidence that he was part of this dangerous resistance?

I emailed Norges Bank immediately and on March 14, 2022 I received a reply from Norges Bank. Thor had indeed participated in the transport of the gold. There was even a receipt of his expenses: he was reimbursed NOK 17.50 for his hotel, meals and return train ticket. I finally have found evidence of his participation in the Norwegian Resistance - from day 1.

In addition, I also learned of another book “Gold Run - The Rescue of Norway’s Gold Bullion from the Nazis, Apri 1940” written by Robert Pearson which goes into great detail about the gold transport. There is also a movie currently in production about this fascinating operation (see: https://deadline.com/2021/11/viaplay-first-norwegian-origina-movie-gold-run-true-story-1234871314/)
