Party Time

Sometimes you get lucky.

Today at the National Library I was putting together a list of books I want to review - you have to make a list and request them to be pulled. Some of them can be seen online but only while sitting in the library. I started to review one book in particular “Norges bank 1816-2016: a pictorial history”. While I was scrolling through the e-book, I came across this photo. The description says, “ Norges Bank’s staff party 1939. Few knew what was to come”.

I took me a few minutes but I found Thor on the lower left.

It’s strange to think about him sitting there perhaps listening to a speech by Nicolai Rygg (the bank director), or just posing for the photographer while waiting for an elaborate dinner to be served. I don’t know what month this photo was taken in 1939 but Norway is only several months from being occupied at this point in history. Today 84 years later, I am looking at him knowing what happens to him, while he has no idea what’s to come.

*I will replace these images taken with my cell phone off the computer screen with better ones when I am able to photograph the book in person.
